Land-Based Wind Energy Guidelines and Fact Sheet

Although wind energy is an important alternative to fossil fuels, wind developments have the potential to negatively impact wildlife and species of concern. The voluntary guidelines outlined in this U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service report and summary fact sheet can be followed in concert with regulatory tools in order to responsibly develop wind energy projects that minimize risks to species of concern. The full report includes an executive summary, a general overview of how wind impacts wildlife, guidelines corresponding to chronological stages of the wind development process, and other best management practices and mitigation strategies.
