Granville Township Wind Ordinance Mifflin County, Pennsylvania
Submitted by Laura Jackson on 10.21.2014
Wind developers are targeting mountains in Pennsylvania that are important migratory corridors for birds and bats. Many of these mountains also serve as important forested habitats for birds at risk: cerulean warblers, black-throated blue warblers, wood thrush, to name a few. These forested blocks will be fragmented due to proposed industrial wind development, which will harm the quality of high quality watersheds on forested steep slopes. In addition, infrasound and audible noise from turbines can harm human health. This wind ordinance was adopted by Granville Township in Mifflin Co. Pennsylvania to protect important natural areas, as well as human health.
