An Ohio Landowner’s Guide to Hydraulic Fracturing
Submitted by Evie Pless on 09.03.2014
Developed at Harvard Law School, this guide is for Ohio landowners who are considering signing a lease with a natural gas company for the extraction of natural gas by hydraulic fracking on their lands. Although a natural gas lease presents a financial opportunity, it is one which may have significant impacts on the property and could even threaten human and environmental health. This guide highlights key environmental and health issues associated with fracking and provides recommendations for how landowners can better protect themselves, their families, and their properties by adding suggested language to their natural gas leases before signing.
