Petition

We petition the Mayor, City Council and Department of Streets and Sanitation to try some of the new methods out there and reduce spending on ineffective rodenticides.
REDUCE THE RODENTICIDE BUDGET BY 20% THIS YEAR AND USE THAT MONEY FOR PILOT STUDIES OF CONTRACEPTIVES, CARBON MONOXIDE, AND/OR OTHER METHODS OF PREVENTION AND DETERRENCE.

Petition background

The Chicago budget season is upon us. There is a boatload of money budgeted for rodenticide. These have been the key to Chicago’s rat-fighting efforts - and they don’t work. Chicago was just named the rattiest city in the country -again!!

Rodenticide kills birds. The two owls pictured plus a third - Lincoln Park’s owl family that was seen and loved by so many this year - all were killed by rodenticide this summer. So was Flaco, NYC’s beloved owl. Their prey is full of toxic rodenticide.

Read about a sensible position and the research it is based on here.

Help spread the word about this petition!
