Petition background
NWIW has plans to construct the world's largest methanol plant on the Puget Sound in Tacoma WA, to be shipped solely to China, where it will be turned into olefins used to manufacture plastic products.
The City of Tacoma is the lead agency responsible for the draft EIS scoping process. This is the public's first opportunity to comment on what questions need to be addressed in the EIS. The EIS becomes the basis for future required permits to be issued or denied, as well as legal challenges.
Whether you support, oppose or are undecided, it is essential that we send a clear message to include a cumulative impacts analysis in the EIS. Doing so will give the public and decision makers the most thorough information available.
Feel free to send additional comments directly to: Tacoma.Methanol.SEPA@cityoftacoma.org
Comments are due by 5pm on March 4, 2016.
NOTE: as of 2/18 the environmental review process has been paused at the request of NWIW. The comment deadline will change when the process is re-started. In the meantime, we will continue to collect signatures!
